The workshop will be especially useful for people who want tools to help them choreograph with/for other dancers and to appreciate people’s unique ways of moving in order to create ensemble work. Exercises and discussions will focus on sharing movement ideas across diverse bodies and movement styles; and editing, transposing and modifying movement sequences based on individual physicality and desired meaning. Participants will have opportunities to compose and direct a small group, playing with tempo, arrangement of dancers and direction; or to create a conversation/duet from a movement sequence. Goals for the workshop include demystifying the choreographic process; accessing narratives and movements we would like to see on stage; and celebrating differences in physicality and expression.
