Please join the inaugural meeting of the reading group “The Queer International.”
This readings group seeks to understand the regulation and production of sexual identities across borders, the efforts of queer activists to navigate the violences of border-crossing, and the ways sexuality structures mobility. The group is open to faculty, post-docs, graduate students, and advanced undergraduate students.
The first meeting will explore the theoretical frameworks for thinking about queerness transnationally. It will also be an opportunity to get to know each other over snacks and drinks and discuss future plans for this reading group.
On discussion will be the following texts: Georgis, Dina. “Thinking Past Pride: Queer Arab Shame in ‘Bareed Mista3jil.’” International Journal of Middle East Studies 45, no. 2 (2013): 233–51; and Neferti X. M. Tadiar. “Ground Zero,” no. 2 (2016): 173-181.
Refreshments will be provided
Sponsored by the Migration, Mobility, and Immobility Project.
