Position description

The Global Arts + Humanities Discovery Theme seeks a 25% Graduate Administrative Associate (GAA) for the 2021-22 academic year. Per University rules, Graduate Administrative Associates may not hold an appointment for more than 75% time as a combination of appointments. This GAA will gain valuable experience in website and social media content generation and storying for the Global Arts + Humanities Discovery Theme. The position is also an opportunity to develop administrative skills as related to marketing and communications in a university setting.


Mentorship

The GAA will be closely mentored by the Global Arts + Humanities Discovery Theme team. This will include: 

  1. Weekly meetings with the communications specialist about relevant projects and tasks. The communications specialist will mentor the GAA in conceptualizing, writing, revising, publishing and promoting content like news stories, feature stories, essays, blog posts, videos, podcasts, photo essays, social media posts and more. 
  2. Monthly meetings with the faculty director and program manager.
  3. Attending GAHDT leadership meetings. 

Duties

  • Content development: Writing news and feature stories for the website and print/digital marketing publications. Writing frequent updates about news initiatives and announcements, in addition to crafting long-form features in collaboration with GAHDT leadership and principal investigators.
  • Website management: Creating news/events pages, running link checks and ensuring content is timely and robust. Making suggestions for developing new/existing content.
  • Promotion: Submitting news and events items for promotion in various college and university calendars and marketing channels. Distributing print materials and preparing mailings.
  • Social media: Translating existing content and generating new content for GAHDT’s new Twitter feed and collaborating with the communications specialist on managing the Hootsuite scheduling system.
  • Events: Assist in the planning, preparation, execution, documentation and photographing of events. Assist with implementation of GAHDT's forthcoming autumn exhibition.
  • Other: Other responsibilities may include analytics tracking/reporting, production assistance with videos/podcasts, and more.
