Artist's Talk on Dancing with Devils: Latin American Mask Traditions Recording and Transcript

Mask Example

We are excited to share the recording and transcript for the Artist's Talk on Dancing with Devils: Latin American Mask Traditions from March 22nd, 2021. This was a conversation about the making of this online exhibition with documentary photographer and Ohio State School of Communication instructor Leonardo Carrizo and special guest Fernando Endara, a Diablo de Píllaro from Ecuador.

It can also be found on our YouTube channel, and the transcript is available as a Box file.

The Dancing with Devils online exhibit can be viewed on the University Libraries website

You can find more information about the original event, co-sponsored by K'acha Willaykuna, Ohio State's Center for Latin American Studies and University Libraries, on the Global Arts + Humanities website.

Finally, you can read an interview with the exhibit curators Pamela Espinosa de los Monteros and Leonardo Carrizo. This included discussion about the acquisition of the mask collection connected to the exhibit, the challenges posed by the pandemic, and the importance of narrative construction connected to indigenous culture.
